Where is Mt. Solmar?

Mt. Solmar is located right at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula, near the famous Land’s End and Lovers Beach. The trailhead starts just behind the dog training facility, *Solmar Vino Training Camp*, near the Cabo San Lucas Marina. This hike is on private property, so you can only access it with the owner, Enrique, who is one of the nicest and most entertaining guides we've ever met! Enrique graciously guides this hike Sunday through Friday (not Saturdays), but I would double check for any updates on his facebook page here before showing up.

Pro tip: While tipping isn’t required, it’s a thoughtful way to show your appreciation and Enrique uses the donations for his dog rescue efforts.

What to Expect on the Hike

- Difficulty Level: Moderate. The hike isn’t long (approximately 1-2 miles round trip), but it’s steep and rocky in sections. You’ll need proper footwear and a decent fitness level.

- Duration: It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to reach the summit, depending on your pace. Add some extra time to soak in the views at the top. All in, it took us a little over 2 hours, but we spent quite a bit of time at the top.

- Terrain: Expect loose rocks, sandy stretches, and some scrambling. Use your hands for balance in the steeper sections.

- Views: The payoff is worth every step. From the top, you’ll see the sparkling Sea of Cortez, the Pacific Ocean, the iconic Arch of Cabo San Lucas, and the vibrant marina.

- Hiking Partners: We are dog people, so we were thrilled that some of the dogs from the training camp joined us on the hike! If you have a fear of dogs or just don't like the idea of them running around while hiking up a mountain, this may not be the hike for you.

When to Hike

- Arrive before 8 am, Enrique will open the gates and bring everyone through at about 8.

- Season: The best months are November through April when the weather is cooler. Summer hikes can be challenging due to high temperatures.

- Occasionally the hike is offered in the afternoon or the evenings depending on the time of year, so be sure to check Enrique's Facebook page for more information.

What to Bring

1. Water: Bring at least a liter per person to stay hydrated. I did see the tour guide sending people who did not bring water to the market to buy some, which is only about a 5 minute walk from the dog training camp.

2. Proper Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots or sneakers with good grip are essential.

3. Sun Protection: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are non-negotiable—the sun can be intense.

4. Snacks: A light snack like a granola bar can keep your energy up.

5. Camera or Phone or Drone: You’ll want to capture the stunning views. We brought our drone and the tour guide had no problem with us using it.

6. Light Backpack: To keep your hands free for scrambling.

Tips for an Enjoyable Experience

- Respect the Land: Mt. Solmar is private property, so follow any rules Enrique shares.

- Stay Hydrated: Cabo’s dry heat can sneak up on you.

- Take Your Time: Enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
